Baruipur Police District, part of the West Bengal Police, serves the South 24 Parganas district. It was established to manage law and order in the rapidly growing, semi-urban, and rural areas around Baruipur, which became a subdivision in 1858. The district includes several police stations under the South 24 Parganas police jurisdiction. It was created with the objective of strengthening law enforcement and improving administrative efficiency in the southern suburban region of Kolkata
Earlier, this area was under the jurisdiction of the undivided South 24 Parganas Police District, which is one of the largest and most densely populated districts in the state. Due to increasing population, rapid urbanization, and rising law and order challenges, the need for a separate police district was strongly felt.To address these challenges, the Baruipur Police District was officially carved out in the year 2012. The formation aimed to ensure better supervision, quicker response time, and more effective policing in the region.
The district derives its name from the historic town of Baruipur, which has a rich cultural and historical heritage dating back to ancient times. The area has witnessed significant development over the years, transforming from a semi-rural region into a rapidly growing urban and peri-urban zone.
Since its inception, the Baruipur Police District has played a crucial role in maintaining law and order, preventing crime, and ensuring public safety. It actively engages in community policing initiatives and adopts modern policing techniques to address emerging challenges.
Today, the district continues to evolve with a focus on technology-driven policing, citizen-friendly services, and coordinated efforts to ensure peace and security in the region.
